Efforts on to enhance medical education capacity in J&K: Centre | KNO

Srinagar, Mar 30 (KNO): Highlighting the availability of medical education infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, the Centre on Monday informed Lok Sabha that Union Territory currently has 1,676 Undergraduate (UG) seats and 808 Postgraduate (PG) medical seats. Replying to a query Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the data was provided by the National Medical Commission (NMC) as part of state/UT-wise details of medical seats across the country. The figures come amid rising competition among medical aspirants, with lakhs of students appearing in national-level entrance examinations like NEET every year. The government said that continuous efforts are being made to enhance medical education capacity, including the establishment of new medical colleges and upgradation of existing institutions, particularly in underserved regions. Officials said the expansion aims to improve access to medical education and strengthen healthcare services in Jammu & Kashmir—(KNO)
